Need I say more about her name other than she is a calico cat. Callie was a true feral cat. The previous owner told me she had never been touched by a human and she kept her distance because of that. She started coming over for food to our house about a year before she made the final move. She would make the trip the same time morning and evening for her meals. You would see her walking on the edge of the creek on the other side. Then she would cross over a log to wait at the edge of the woods until almost dark. We had a bowl of food set out for her whenever she was ready to eat.
When she and the others became orphaned, we finally succeeded in bringing all the cats here except for Gulf, Callie, and her two kittens. On one occasion, we went out to the barn in our backyard and inside was one of Callie’s kittens, the one we would call BA. Callie had brought her over and left her there. The next morning, her other kitten, we called Lil-D was in the barn as well. It was such a wonderful feeling knowing that Callie trusted us enough to bring us her two kittens.
On another occasion, we drove over the short distance and did our usual routine. When we had finished, we drove back and as we got out of our truck we could hear a meow. It was Callie! She had made it over to our house before us. She made the final move herself.
Lil-D was not to make it but a couple of months. The conditions over there were not good and we lost her Dec 2006. But Callie thrived and got used to our love. She ended up staying in the house more and more. She even sat on our laps to sleep and eventually she would sleep in bed cuddled next to me under my arm. It is a warm beautiful feeling knowing how she grew to trust us.
With our hearts broken, we lost Callie June 12, 2017, from a Mammary Gland Tumor.
These are two of her babies.
BA had such a BAD ATTITUDE but was coming along and we were seeing a change in her. Until the night we lost her. We lost her at the same time as Spider.
We lost Lil-D way too soon. As weak as she was getting, she would still try to follow us out in the yard and back in the house.
We didn’t have time to work with Black Nose before he took too sick to try and save him.
